Challenges
Like most people, we have found we can take our big lumps as they come.
But also like others we often discover a greater challenge
in the lesser and more continuous problems of life.
Our answer is in still more spiritual development.
Only by this means can we improve our chances for really happy and useful living.

- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 144

Thought to Ponder . . .
Life is a steady drizzle of small things -- carry an umbrella.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A A = Always Awesome.

I'm Jenny, an alcoholic.  Living with challenges sober is really what my recovery is about on a daily basis .. life on life's terms.  Before AA, each and every moment, whether easy or difficult, was done with booze on board.  So when I got sober I thought, how the heck was I to deal with anything, really?  But by continuing to go to meetings, letting my body heal, and detoxing, I became able to listen and learn from others before me in the program.  They shared with me how they dealt with life.  I remember wondering how am I to stay sober if my mom passes away .. there is no way to do that!  I was living in the "what ifs."  But my mother did get sick and passed away and I found I had no desire to drink.  I knew my Higher Power didn't want me to and would be there with me, and Mom was one of my biggest cheerleaders.  Through our program and the tools I've been blessed with, I was able to recognize that I simply was wanting relief from feelings.  Life throws us many "curves" .. changes in relationships, death of loved ones.  These are the challenges for this alcoholic in life, but I also try to remember that these are also challenges that not only alkies have to go through, but also those people outside our halls.  I am so grateful for the program, you people, my Higher Power, the Steps and sponsorship.  Life can be lived without being drunk.  I am living proof of this.
