Honesty
Only God can fully know what absolute honesty is.
Therefore, each of us has to achieve what this great ideal may be -- to the best of our ability.

- As Bill Sees It, p. 66

Thought to Ponder . . .
Honesty is the absence of the intent to deceive.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
H O W = Honesty, Open-mindedness, Willingness.

Hi everyone, I'm Lisa, an alcoholic.  When I first got to AA and heard, "to thine own self be true," I thought it meant do whatever I need to for my own selfish thoughts and beliefs, don't listen to anyone else because I know the truth.  What an idiot!  But I remembered it was a quote from Shakespeare, and I really like Shakespeare.  Here is more of the quote: "This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man."  Once in a while in early sobriety, I would stop at an Italian restaurant to get dinner to take home.  I had to call ahead of time, because it's not just a pizza joint.  So, one time, I was waiting for my "to go" meal.  The waiting area spilled over into an area with a small service bar a few feet away.  This thought came to me, "no one will know, have a drink, see if you've been around AA long enough to control your drinking."  Thank God, the very next thought was, "I will know."  That's when I understood honesty.  Thanks for being here and for helping me stay sober today.
