Self-esteem
In most cases it was found that our self-esteem, our pocketbooks, our ambitions,
our personal relationships (including sex) were hurt or threatened.
So we were "burned up." . . .  Was it our self-esteem, our security, our ambitions,
our personal, or sex relations, which had been interfered with? . . .
We went back through our lives.  Nothing counted but thoroughness and honesty.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 64-65

Thought to Ponder . . .
Self-esteem doesn't need an audience.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .

I'm Bill, and an alcoholic.  So many of us experience low self-esteem issues.  There are also many of us who have experienced a good deal of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.  Finding alcohol is like finding the Holy Grail, or so it seems, and then it turns on us .. and boy! does it turn!  My coming to AA totally demoralized, and having nothing to lose, tried this program.  My life is making more sense, and I am staying sober.  Amazing.  Working the Steps with a sponsor, making amends, finding God with prayer, and having a spiritual experience, I've discovered that God loves me exactly the way I am.  And then it occurred to me that God spreads his love around equally .. no favorites.  And I have done a good many years of this program, not drinking, praying for God to transform me, and yet finally accepting that there is One who has all power.  I believe that I was intended to be exactly the person I am; you, too.  Why?  Maybe it has to do with meetings like this where those of us with low self-esteem help each other and build one another up.  Sounds good to me.  You and I are all God made, and he didn't screw up.  Thanks for listening everyone, and stay sober today.
