A New Life
When we work at our Twelve Steps,
the old life of guzzling and fuzzy thinking, and all that goes with it, gradually dies,
and we acquire a different and better way of life.
As our shortcomings are removed, one of us dies, and another life of us lives.
We in AA die to live.

Hi y'all I'm David, an alcoholic. I was already dying each and every day while I was drinking. My spiritual life was already dead, I was an emotional cripple, and my body was following fast. So I had to die in all respects except physically; all my old ways had to go. But I had to replace them with something, and if AA had not been available to me I wouldn't have had the right stuff to rebuild me. Letting my old self die was really hard for me because I still wanted what I couldn't have: to be a normal drinker. Somewhere between Step One and Step Eight I started seeing light brighter and smells sweeter and life much better. I know that all of that old life is still out there waiting for me, probably working out getting stronger. If I ever think it's me running the show the demon awaits. So I just keep working the AA program and doing my own workouts. The old me that died has been replaced with a better version. Thanks.
