Faith
If what we have learned and felt and seen means anything at all, it means that all of us, whatever our race, creed, or color,
are the children of a living Creator with whom we may form a relationship upon simple and understandable terms
as soon as we are willing and honest enough to try.
Those who have religious affiliations will find here nothing disturbing to their beliefs or ceremonies.
There is no friction among us over such matters.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 28

Thought to Ponder . . .
True religion is the life we lead, not the creed we profess.

Good morning family, I'm Di, a grateful alcoholic.  I wish I could say I did not worship alcohol for so many years.  I consider myself a devout Christian, and although we are not discussing religion, I am very touchy when my faith, respect, loyalty, and honoring of God comes into question.  However, if I am to be vigorously honest, as you all suggest, I need to take a serious look at my actions rather than my feelings.  So, how did I behave when I was drinking?  Did I put alcohol above all else in my daily life?  Did I always find the time to 'devote' to my drinking?  Did I make sacrifices to be able to continue drinking?  Absolutely, all of the above, every day.  It was a really hard pill to swallow because it sounds a whole lot like worship.  Perhaps the most difficult part of being an active alcoholic was certainly knowing that drinking came first above all that I adore.  Sad.  The great news is that I have been so freely given a new way of life.  I have the tools to understand that what I 'feel' or 'think' isn't always the truth.  And no matter how painful, I must go through the process of looking at my past behavior for what it was.  Then I work the Steps and hang out with folks who have worked the program, and I can relearn how to think, feel, and behave differently.  Thanks for being here.
