The Actor
Most people try to live by self-propulsion.  Each person is like an actor who wants to run the whole show;
is forever trying to arrange the lights, the ballet, the scenery and the rest of the players in his own way. . .
What usually happens?  The show doesn't come off very well.
He begins to think life doesn't treat him right.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 60-61

Thought to Ponder . . .
When I choose the behavior, I choose the consequences.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A A = Attitude Adjustment.

My name is Jay, and I'm an alcoholic.  My sobriety date is September 14, 2001.  From my earliest memory, I felt alone.  Something was wrong.  I never communicated to anyone about it, and I lived that way for many years.  Our Big Book talks about the actor [p.60] and about how it works.  I wanted people to love me yet I didn't like the way they showed me love.  I would attach a string to it.  I lived this way for many years bitter and angry.  I heard that you don't ever have to be alone and that we never have to be that way again.  That's the beauty of it.  I know I belong in AA.  I also belong with my family and with my peers at college.  AA taught me to have long-lasting relationships with people.  I really hope you find here what I did.  Emotional sobriety is one of the gifts of the program.  Thank you.
