Into Action
Reminding ourselves that we have decided to go to any lengths to find a spiritual experience,
we ask that we be given strength and direction to do the right thing, no matter what the personal consequences may be.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 79
Thought to Ponder . . .
Happiness is the result doing our next right thing in spite of hurt, in spite, even, of good fortune.
AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A A = Accountable Actions.

I'm Doug, an alcoholic. Well, for me, this program is about doing the right thing. I know when I am doing something wrong and when I am doing something right .. I guess I always have. My gut feeling has always told me when it feels right and I feel good. When it doesn't feel right, I feel bad. It's like my Higher Power has taught me right from wrong my whole life. Let's face it .. I am an alcoholic: selfish, self-centered, and it's all about me when I am using. But in recovery it's not all about me. Getting outside of myself is rewarding and it's humbling. So I look at it this way; if I do the opposite in recovery from when I was using or drinking, then I am on the right path. I did not land in this program because I have ingrown toenails or won the Citizen of the Year award .. I have a disease of self. I was eight years sober until April of this year. I worked in addictions seven days a week in two different centres for addiction and then burned out. I relapsed one week after I celebrated eight years. Recovery is a gift, and I am now fighting to get it back. All the best of luck to all of you One Day At A Time. Thanks.
