Willingness
I pray for the willingness to let go of my arrogant self-criticism,
and to praise God by humbly accepting and caring for myself.

- Daily Reflections, p. 324

Thought to Ponder . . .
Trying to pray is praying.

Hi!  I'm Di, an alcoholic.  I think the one single thing you all have told me that has made all the difference for me, is that I can pray for willingness.  Wow!  I can pray and ask for the willingness to be willing!  So I do .. I'm learning to get rid of my 'but.'  I used to say, "I'm willing.....BUT (fill in the excuse), or I will be willing WHEN....(fill in the never gonna happen).”  I realize that I become willing when I pray for the willingness.  I have never been a person of action; I just wasn't.  I can lay around all day doing nothing and think I am satisfied.  Unless I am willing to take action, I will stay that way, and that will be my life.  I'd be sentenced to drink again, certainly.  So now, I pray without ceasing for the willingness to be willing to lose my 'but' and stay in action.  So far, it works.  Thanks for the suggestion!
