Honesty
The perverse wish to hide a bad motive underneath a good one permeates human affairs from top to bottom.
This subtle and elusive kind of self-righteousness can underlie he smallest act or thought.
Learning daily to spot, admit, and correct these flaws is the essence of character-building, and good living.

- As Bill Sees It, p. 17

Thought to Ponder . . .
Honesty is the absence of the intent to deceive.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
H O W = Honesty, Open-mindedness, Willingness.

Hello, I'm Jenny, an alcoholic.  I remember lying as a child and I was never good at it.  I have a terrible "poker face."  I learned early on that lying didn't work for me.  As I grew older, lying came more in the form of trying to hide my drinking.  But, as I found out when I got sober, most people knew anyway.  So really who was I lying to?  I was lying to myself.  When I came to AA, I learned about why I would attempt to lie -- I lived in fear, and this would bring lying back to life.  Today I know I do not have to lie.  Honesty is the best policy because that is what my Higher Power wants for me.  Rigorous honesty can be difficult or easy -- I have the choice today.  If I am doing the next right thing I have no need or even an inkling to lie.  I want to be an honest sober woman now.  Life is great that way, no regrets, and less stress, for sure!  Thank you.
