Willingness
Under the lash of alcoholism, we are driven to AA, and then we discover the fatal nature of our situation.
Then, and only then, do we become as open-minded to conviction and as willing to listen as only the dying can be.
We stand ready to do anything which will lift the merciless obsession from us.

Hi, I'm Maureen, an alcoholic, powerless over alcohol. Why? Because I am an Alcoholic. Imagine that! Something penetrated my thick skull when I got here, because God knows I am very hard-headed, stubborn, and used to be even worse. But I was in the right place at the right time. The wheels had already fallen off the bus, so I was not a happy camper out there. Unfortunately, most of us have to come close to death to be as "willing to listen as only the dying can be," and many do not make it and/or make it back. But if I had one, that was it -- the party was starting and over, all in the same breath. I didn't realize it until I came to AA. I never knew there was another way to live until I found it here. If you are new or struggling today, please don't quit five minutes before the miracle. Thank you.
