Love and Tolerance

"Love and tolerance of others is our code."
- Alcoholics Anonymous,
p. 84

Finally, we begin to see that all people, including ourselves, are to some extent emotionally ill
as well as frequently wrong.
When this happens, we approach true tolerance and we see what real love for our fellows actually means.

- As Bill Sees It, p. 203

Thought to Ponder . . .
Let us always love the best in others -- and never fear their worst.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
P U T
= Patience, Understanding,Tolerance.

Hi, I'm Slam, and I'm an alcoholic.  Good afternoon mis amigos alcoholicos, it's good to be here.  When I first came to AA I was filled with hate.  Not anger, but pure hate.  I was self-violent, and violent towards others when I'd drink towards the end.  I came to AA and you said Love and Tolerance was your code.  Never in a million years did I think I'd find myself where I am today.  Don't stick me with a fork yet because this cake ain't done yet!  I struggled for a long time to free myself of how I was inwardly with alcohol, and you guys said the Steps would help.  The Steps for me became a life-changer.  They allowed me to let God change me.  God has done so much for me on the inside.  I have forgiven so much in my life, and I've healed so much and yet the scars remain.  Today, I still get hurt very easily because I’m so sensitive, and sometimes I struggle with forgiveness of recent hurts.  I have known great pain, but you guys said; let us love you so you can love yourself.  I've come to believe that you all can do that because you've known great pain too.  You know how to help me and help heal.  I've begun to move away from tolerance, though.  I want to be more accepting than I am tolerant because my tolerance, probably unlike yours, was simply subdued anger.  I seek to be free and one day I will.  Thanks.
