Relapse
We have tried every imaginable remedy.
In some instances there has been brief recovery, followed always by a still worse relapse.
Physicians who are familiar with alcoholism agree there is no such thing as making a normal drinker out of an alcoholic.
Science may one day accomplish this, but it hasn't done so yet.

Thought to Ponder . . .
This thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down.

Hi all, I'm Laramie, an alcoholic.  If I am going to stay sober I can never be led to believe that I have power over drinking again.  I don't have a drinking problem.  I can drink very well.  I do have a stopping problem.  In my month-long relapse, the first day I told myself, "One won't hurt."  Then I said another won't hurt.  Then, by the third, I didn't hear my voice at all anymore.  The next day, feeling terrible all day, I said just one will make me feel better.  Then another one won’t hurt.  By the third, I didn't hear my inner voice.  Each day for 32 days I continued this.  After 4 months of sobriety I had convinced myself in one moment that I had power again.  I told myself for 32 days that if I just tried a little harder and really committed to self-control it would be okay.  When I realized I was back to the bottom of the pit I also realized that I was totally powerless over alcohol.  If I let it in, it takes residence and tries to kill me.  My relapse taught me that this will never be any different.  It will always try to kill me if I let it in.  I have the power to not drink today, but if I drink, I am doomed.  I learned that I must always be vigilant against alcohol if I want to live.  I can't ever take the first drink.  Thank you.
