Life is not a Dead End
When a man or a woman has a spiritual awakening, the most important meaning of it is
that he has now become able to do, feel, and believe that which he could not do before
on his unaided strength and resources alone.
He has been granted a gift which amounts to a new state of consciousness and being.
He has been set on a path which tells him he is really going somewhere,
that life is not a dead end, not something to be endured or mastered.

I'm Pammy, an alcoholic. Several family members, as well as my best friend of 45 years, died from this disease. They begged too late for another chance. I think of them often and grateful they didn't live to see my own decline. There is a song I love called "If I Ever Leave this World Alive," and it gives me a goal in maintaining my sobriety. The song goes on to say, "Though I walked away from my past, others hang on to it to try to keep me down." But if I keep working my Steps and maintaining my responsibilities in AA service, I hope there will be those who will remember me for that. I pray that when they think of me it will be the lively, happy new me. I want to be alive that way when I leave. It makes me smile to think that if I continue to follow the path He has set for me, then in all likelihood it is very possible. Thank you.
