Surrender
When we look back, we realize that the things which came to us when we put ourselves in God’s hands
were better than anything we could have planned.

Thought to Ponder . . .
Letting go is a process, not an event.

I'm Alanna, an alcoholic. I started blacking out at about age 14. And as a teenager, I thought I was the life of the party. In my early 20's, I thought I was a sophisticated, worldly woman and life of the party. I survived so much that didn't happen, thank you, God. I got myself into dangerous situations with scary people and yet God protected me. One thing that helped me to consider that I had a drinking problem was that my blackouts started to fail me towards the end of my drinking. I would remember those places I had been, people I had been with, driving home on the wrong side of the road, or on the sidewalk: what could have happened didn't. When I entered AA, my ego was about all that was keeping me functioning. As I began the Steps, I was terrified that I would lose some special essence of me that would cause me to be -- I'm not sure how to describe my fear -- but with nothing; a shell of a person. Continuing with the Steps with my wonderful sponsor, meetings, and AA friends, I learned that letting go didn't mean I'd be empty. The promises were there, for me to work on, towards. So my fears of living 'without', thank you, God, didn't happen. Thank you for allowing me to share.
