Slips
It isn’t easy to start over again, to try to be teachable after being one of the teachers,
to try to become humble after being successful in AA and a career.
I dug out my AA books, the ones I nearly threw out the last time I moved. . .
It looks like a slow, uphill process.
But at least I no longer feel as if I’m going downhill on a greased slide.

Thought to Ponder . . .
Having a slip is not an option. Staying sober is the solution.
AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
S L I P = Sobriety Loses Its Priority.

I'm Mike, an alcoholic. Seven months of sobriety is sometimes harder than twelve years. Living one day at a time, I remember what it was like when I was drinking. I know without a shadow of a doubt that if I drank again I would lose my home, wife, kids, and much more. I would lose that relationship with God, and God is the most important factor in my life today. I think He is the only reason I stay sober. I know what I need to do to stay sober, based on your experience. I need to make meetings, work with others, talk to a sponsor, do service work for other people, and the key ingredient in the witches brew is that relationship with God which solves the problem of a spiritual malady. I had a friend who was three years sober who slipped again. He came back and told me that he didn't fully understand Step One but now he did. He was making meetings, talking to his sponsor, doing service work, and I assumed he had a relationship with a Higher Power. Well, he slowly stopped doing that and eventually put a shotgun to his head and took his own life. He was at the jumping-off point and he could not humble himself to come back and pick up a desire chip. That is why I am so happy when someone comes back after drinking again and picks up a desire chip. I have seen more people recover from this disease than I have seen them die because of it. I had a friend when I was less than six months sober who could not find his way in Alcoholics Anonymous and killed himself. I remember calling his wife and expressing my condolences and I heard in the background his kids crying. She told me one thing that I will never forget; she told me that he had 90 days of sobriety. Alcoholism kills people who are in recovery and kills those who are not and, for me, I don't want to be one of the walking dead. I love you all and I hope I did not share too morbidly.
