Solving a Dilemma

We lay the matter before our sponsor or spiritual advisor, earnestly asking God’s help and guidance
—meanwhile, resolving to do the right thing when it becomes clear, cost what it may.
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions,pp. 86-87

Thought to Ponder . . .
Simply asking for help seems to be a help in itself.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .

Claudia here, a child of God with alcoholism.  I'm in the midst of a difficult life experience of which I will not go in to detail because it isn't alcohol-related.  However, the same tools that work for me to not drink one day at a time also work in every single aspect of my daily living.  For me, that is the wonder and gift of the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.  It is a program for living, not just for not drinking.  Last Thursday, my personal world turned upside down; circumstance and choices of others out of my control placed me in a potentially difficult situation.  In the past I would have panicked first, fallen apart second, and drank third.  Well, drink may have been first.  But instead I reached out and asked for help.  I went to my God first, my sponsor second, and another trusted alcoholic third, and then I went to my Pastor.  I find that we alcoholics who are working our programs can be our best allies and help in times of trouble.  Nowadays, I ask for suggestions as I tell what's going on with rigorous honesty.  The life situation I find myself in is not wholly the fault or cause of another—I, too, had a role in what's happening.  I didn't cause it and I cannot "fix" it or the other person.  What I can do is the next right thing for me which, so far, I have.  And because of that I'm ok today, filled with serenity in the midst of a storm and sober.  It all started to be the way it is for me today because I asked for help at the first sign of a situation out of my control and one that could potentially send me in a tail spin.  This program for living works.  I once again am living that truth first hand.  I'd sure like to hear your experience, strength and hope about asking for help instead of asking for a drink.  Thank you.
