Resentments

It is plain that a life which includes deep resentment leads only to futility and unhappiness.
To the precise extent that we permit these, do we squander the hours that might have been worthwhile.
But with the alcoholic, whose hope is the maintenance and growth of a spiritual experience,
this business of resentment is infinitely grave.  We found that it is fatal.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 66

Thought to Ponder . . .
We are prisoners of our own resentments.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A A = Altered Attitudes.

Hi, my name is Kathy, and I am an alcoholic grateful for yet another daily reprieve.  I learned over time from people in the rooms that resentments are like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.  We're tearing ourselves up inside and the other person has no clue, ever.  They just simply go about their business while we are boiling inside over something they did or said to us a year ago.  I've done it.  What a waste of time and energy.  Time would be better spent helping other alcoholics who suffer.  But nevertheless, we are human.  We're going to get hurt or mad and want to retaliate.  Here's a chance to alleviate that problem by getting humble and turning the problem over to God.  I know I'm powerless to change that person, place or thing.  It's when I finally got that knowledge.  Thanks for letting me share.
