Ground Glass

The moral inventory is a cool examination of the damages that occurred to us during life
and a sincere effort to look at them in a true perspective.
This has the effect of taking the ground glass out of us,
the emotional substance that still cuts and inhibits.
- As Bill Sees It, p. 140

Hello all, I'm Christine, an alcoholic.  The description of Step Ten is right on.  It is a combination of Steps 4 through 9.  Described in the Big Book pages 84 to 85, inventory is looking at where selfishness, dishonesty, resentment and fear come up.  It gives specific instruction for what to look for and then what to do with it.  I then ask God to remove them and discuss them at once with someone, making amends quickly for harms done.  I love when it also tells me that I am not cured of alcoholism; that I have a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition.  It is also great to learn in the Step that by talking to another human being, I am staying close to others in the program asking for help.  It also says that nothing will so much insure my sobriety as intensive work with another alcoholic.  Sometimes that work is me working with someone and sometimes that work is me allowing someone to work with me.  Thanks.
