Aloneness
“When I was driven to my knees by alcohol, I was made ready to ask for the gift of faith.
And all was changed. Never again, my pains and problems notwithstanding,
would I experience my former desolation.
I saw the universe to be lighted by God’s love; I was alone no more.”
- As Bill Sees It, p. 51
Thought to Ponder . . .
I'm not alone anymore.

I'm Peyton and I'm a real alcoholic of the Big Book type, sober by the grace of God, whom I am coming to know better through taking the Twelve Steps of AA. I know that I never have to be alone again, that there are people on the other end of the phone, online or wherever I can talk to at any time. The fellowship can be wonderful, making new connections, new friends, having support from sober folks who are living this program. Yet I have a part to play in not being alone. See, for 2 years I was at AA, but not in the middle; not taking the Steps as laid out in the Big Book. The spiritual growth that had started came to a standstill. And, of course, like any alcoholic who has done nothing in this programme, or tried to do it my way as I did, I drank again. And that's a very lonely and alone feeling. By the grace of God I made it back a few months later by working the Steps as laid out in the Big Book. I've not found it necessary to take a drink in 8 years. That's a long time for this gal who couldn't imagine 24 hours sober at one time. The thing for me is that I continue to live this program/the Steps daily. Without doing so, I will end up where I was over 8 years ago with a bottle in my hand and an empty soul and all alone. Today, even when there are no other people around, I'm still not alone. I have God with me always, and can rely on Him. Thanks for showing me how it works.
