Ask for Help

Finally beaten, I asked for God’s help.  His presence told me to believe.
My obsession for alcohol was taken away and my paranoia has since been lifted.
I am no longer afraid.  I know my life is healthy and sane.
- Daily Reflections, p. 46

Thought to Ponder . . .
Simply asking for help seems to be a help in itself.

I'm Ron, an alcoholic.  I believe we have a 'broken thinker'.  We forget the pain we were in on our last drunk.  We have a lot of broken parts; another broken part is our “stop” button.  When I was drinking, I heard people say, “I’ve had enough" — I never said those words when I was drinking.  Another part broken is our ”help" button.  I don’t know about you, but I used to ask God for help while hugging the toilet.  I would scream, "God, get me out of this!"  And then follow it with, "I’ll never do it again."  Every time, God held up His end of the bargain, but I never did.  So, asking for help is very difficult.  I think it’s because we have this fear of being rejected.  That’s a huge fear, but I have never seen anyone be rejected in AA because they said, "I want to stop drinking, please help me."  The worst part is when we make the decision to drink again — we do it STONE COLD SOBER.  That scares the hell out of me, and I hope it does you too.  The process of picking up a drink starts way before we do it.  It’s our attitude, our willingness and our hope that leaves before we take that first drink.  So, if you're new, come in and listen to the music of Alcoholics Anonymous, and I hope you stay long enough to learn the words.  Thank you.
