Awakening
When a man or a woman has a spiritual awakening,
the most important meaning of it is that he has now become able to do, feel, and believe
that which he could not do on his unaided strength and resources alone.
- Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, pp. 106-107
Thought to Ponder . . .

Welcome to you if you are coming back or are new to AA. I'm Charlie J. and I have Alcoholism. You know, just about every language in the world has a spelling for my name. Almost all of them sound different than what I am used to hearing. But they all mean the same thing: Charlie. I like to think of each member's God or Higher Power the same way. We may use different names and spellings but it all means the same thing to me—a belief in some Higher Power or God. I make up no rules for anyone but myself about any of AA's teachings, not even about finding a Higher Power other than to suggest a search for one. If asked, I shared what worked for me and, just as importantly, what didn't work. Then, I treat the person I am working with as the adult they are and let them decide what they do with what I have shared with them. I remember Old Joe B. asked me this question my first meeting back to AA the second time: "What do you know about God?” I thought here we go...preached to, again! I just can't seem to get away from all of that. I answered, looking back at what I did believe and think about a God and said, "nothing." He said, "you only need to know one thing: you're not it!" So I continue to this day to search for a better understanding of a Higher Power so I can 'grow & maintain' my spiritual awakening. Thank you.
