Humility

To those of us who have hitherto known only excitement, depression, or anxiety—in other words,
to all of us—this newfound peace is a priceless gift. Something new indeed has been added.
Where humility had formerly stood for a forced feeding on humble pie, it now begins to mean the
nourishing ingredient which can give us serenity.
- 12 Steps & 12 Traditions, p. 74

Thought to Ponder . . .
Humility is not thinking less of myself, but thinking of myself less.

My name is Hope, alkie...welcome to new names I see.  Maybe this little esh will help someone.  I remember when I prayed, God please,
I need more self esteem.  And I heard..me, Now Hope, you have always had entirely too much self-esteem!  What you need is humility and to do esteemable things.  Oooo pow!  That was my task.  I found that the idea of human instincts for acceptance and love and security were warped in me.  My inventory had a pattern.  Fear and laziness combined with self-centerdness, selfishness.  Not pretty, nor satisfying.  They no longer worked, just like booze no longer worked and never would work again.  I did ask for help, thank God, and followed directions and the steady path has brought me to maybe the best part.   Quiet serenity, which I think is acceptance and love.  What I had always sought 'in all the wrong places.'  And, you know what?  It's not about me anymore.  It's about passing it on the good life sober.  Bless us all dears!
