Acceptance

We learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost selves that we were
alcoholics. This is the first step in recovery. The delusion that we are like
other people, or presently may be, has to be smashed.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p.30

Thought to Ponder . . .
My serenity is directly proportional to my level of acceptance.

AA-related 'Alconym' . . .
A B C  =  Accept, Begin, Continue.

Susan here, very grateful recovered alcoholic by God's Grace.  Not only did I need to admit that I was an alcoholic in Step one but more importantly for me, I needed to accept it completely without any doubts, reservations or ideas that drinking could be an option ever again. When I did that, a huge load was lifted off my shoulders, and I no longer needed to live in the problem of alcoholism.  However, there was still far more to the journey.  I also needed to accept the rest of reality.  That is, everything that is actually going on around me, instead of the crazy stuff going on in my head.  Having done so, accepted that which is...reality, I find great joy and peace as I am no longer fighting things.  It took me a long time to get there, and I rarely have moments of fighting things today.  Its amazing.  Love the acceptance passage on page 417 in the BB, has saved me many a time.  Thanks and blessings in your journey.
