Tradition One
Each member of Alcoholics Anonymous is but a small
part of a great whole. A.A. must continue to live or most of us will
surely die. Hence our common welfare comes first. But individual
welfare follows close afterward.

My name is Daniel and I am an alcoholic. I never really understood Tradition One until today through discussion at my F2F morning meeting. I realize looking back doing it on my own was not a good idea…..see where that got me! LOL Being a small part of the fellowship of AA is in itself a tremendous privilege! Where else can you find an organization that carries on year after year and maintains Unity, with the purpose of keeping it alive by helping one another with humility, compassion, love, and tolerance…..and mean it. It’s vitally important for Daniel, alcoholic, to give away, what was freely given to him, more often. Going on commitments, putting my hand out to a newcomer, giving a hug and encouraging words to another who seems to be struggling, making coffee for home group, chairing meetings, sharing in meetings, get involved where there is a need in the fellowship. There’s always something that can be done for the greater good, which helps me in my recovery. Reciting the Responsibility Declaration has become part of my morning prayers and meditation. “I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.” Giving of myself and being of service to others in recovery are important for strengthening my own recovery. I give and get back. I am blessed twice. I am blessed with the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. I only have today. My HP has my back, always. Blessings on all of you.
