Self
So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own making. They arise out
of ourselves, and the alcoholic is an extreme example of self-will run riot,
though he usually doesn't think so. Above everything, we alcoholics must be
rid of this selfishness. We must, or it kills us! God makes that possible. And
there often seems no way of entirely getting rid of self without His aid.

Christine alcoholic here. Grateful to have a brand new day sober. My late sponsor used to say that when the guys on the football field went into a huddle, she just *knew* they were talking about her. When I first heard that I thought yea, they were! That was me. I was so broken even before I picked up my first drink. Then I picked up the drink and got that ease and comfort which turned on me. And it didn't take long to turn on me. Then, the already twisted relationships became even more twisted. That allowed me in my poor sick mind to blame you, and you, and you for everything that I felt that was bad. For everything in my life that didn't go the way "I" thought it should go. However when I came into the rooms of AA, the finger started to be pointed back at me. That I was the cause of so many of my problems. Maybe even all my problems. Because the way I looked at things and can still look at things today, was less then helpful. But in Step 4 I get a chance to look at me and the root of my drinking. My fundamental problem that life was too much for me and I wanted way more then my fair share. It is/was so important to take an honest fearless look, that I get to do it again in Step 10. Just to try and keep me in some type of balance, where I have a HP that will help me move through life sober and in a place of actually wanting to be of help. The fellowship helped me not fall out of AA for a while. Until I could have a chance to find that acceptance, courage and wisdom given to me by a HP that you all gave me. Thanks.
