As We Understood Him

Much to our relief, we discovered we did not need to consider another's conception of God.
Our own conception, however inadequate, was sufficient to make the approach and to effect
a contact with Him. As soon as we admitted the possible existence of a Creative Intelligence,
a Spirit of the Universe underlying the totality of things, we began to be possessed of a
new sense of power and direction, provided we took other simple steps.

Hello Family, my name is Lance, and I am an alcoholic, thanks to the grace of God.  Sober a while now, which doesn’t insulate me from life's problems but sure does help me have a better frame of mind to deal with it effectively.  This business of a Higher Power is so personal, I consider it sacred ground.  What I know might fill a thimble at best.  But I hope to remain open to others, non-judgmental and respectful no matter what their belief system might be.  Our AA Program is basically a spiritual one, so that can make things awkward sometimes.  I remember going once to a meeting, where a lady said, “I need my church and I need AA.  I hope not to confuse the two.”  I thought that made a lot of sense.  It makes me think of Dr Bob and how he told us to keep some basic things in mind…clean house, and get to know your HP.  Any man can get sober with these two things.  Thanks for letting me share.  I wish everyone here continuing sobriety and a great New Year ahead.
