Laughter

So we think cheerfulness and laughter make for usefulness.  Outsiders are sometimes shocked
when we bust into merriment over a seemingly tragic experience out of the past.
But why shouldn’t we laugh? We have recovered, and have been given the power to help others.

- Alcoholics Anonymous, p 132

Thought to Ponder . . .
Laughter is the sound of recovery.

I'm Charlie J.  I have Alcoholism.  This topic for me is filled with E. S. & especially H.  The  H. is Hope.  It contains an important self inventory question I had to ask myself.  "We insist on enjoying life. "So if I am not enjoying life, why?  I was really spiritually sick when I came to A.A. to stay.  So sick that I laughed when those around me were crying and cried when they were laughing.  When drinking I got my best laughs at your expense.  Only in that way could I feel superior to you or better then you.  Today the best laughs I have are at my own expense.  They come when I am all serious and then do the dumbest thing I could do. Happens a lot!  LOL  Sometimes it can pretty dumb. I laugh a lot because I still make mistakes, and I goof up too.  I remember the first time I shared something I thought was extremely dramatic at a meeting.  The group laughed.  I was new and nothing back then was funny.  Had I not had the next thought, there could have been trouble.  That thought was as I looked around the room, these people are not laughing at me, they are laughing with me. A very BIG difference!  They really do understand and many have done some of the very same types of thing I have.  LOL I think that might have been a case of divine intervention. As my thinking was so screwed up, I had a hard time reading an entire sentence back then.  I hope our new friends find their way in A.A.. I hope they join us and in time see the dark humor only we Alcoholics can have  and understand it and share it with each other.  Thank you.
