Character

We pocket our pride and go to it, illuminating every twist of character, every
dark cranny of the past. Once we have taken this step, withholding nothing, we
are delighted. We can look the world in the eye. We can be alone at perfect peace
and ease. Our fears fall from us. We begin to feel the nearness of our Creator.

Jack alcoholic.  Character building eh?  I had a lot of character before I came in.  I was super smart, super brave and super tall. lol  But I discovered when I came into AA, that I wasn't so smart, full of fear, and definitely, not tall.  I was a drunk without much feeling, and no friends.  My mansion behind me was a bunch of falling down boards, with lots of empty space to let the rain in.  My world had collapsed.  I found out that that was a good thing.  I could actually see where I was and what I needed to do.  It wasn't going to be a quick task, but it was doable.  So, I listened and learned.  Learned about how others were putting their lives and houses back together.  By going through my fourth step, I learned what my character defects were and what needed to be changed in my life.  Practically everything!  So, I asked for help and guidance, threw away to God all my defects and got back what I needed.  Life is much better now.  Reality isn't so bad and I can fix things with a lot of help.  Life is good.  Thanks.
