Balance

As the day goes on, we can pause where situations must be met and decisions made,
and renew the simple request:  “Thy will, not mine, be done.” If at these points our emotional
disturbance happens to be great, we will more surely keep our balance, provided we remember, and
repeat to ourselves, a particular prayer or phrase that has appealed to us in our reading or meditation.

Good morning all.  Garth here, alky.  Last evening I got an email from my sponsee.  He commented about lots of change, and said he was remembering and practicing doing the next right thing.  Ah, changes constantly, it is called life.  And so I have learned to no longer act immediately on impulse.  Usually in the past I was striking out, not thinking, not asking God for help and guidance.  Gee whiz, that didn't work so well.  Of course I never looked at my part anyway.  So what I have learned now is to stop, deep breath, often saying out loud, 'I Surrender.'  And then thinking about what is the next right thing to do in whatever the situation, thinking of others as well as myself.  I like to think of it as eating the apple one bite at a time.  If you try to eat the whole apple at once, you choke.  So trudge, which means walk deliberately forward, the road to happy destiny.  Asking for guidance and then doing the next right thing makes my life and yours much more pleasant, and keeps me from anger and resentment.  Well mostly anyway.  Spiritual progress not spiritual perfection.
