Ready

If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length
to get it—then you are ready to take certain steps.  At some of these we balked.
We thought we could find an easier, softer way. But we could not.
With all the earnestness at our command, we beg of you to be fearless and thorough from the very start.
- Alcoholics Anonymous, p 58

Morning I'm Bill, ol' grouchy drunk.  When I was 12 stepped, those two knew me pretty well as they had been holding a seat for me at least 2 years, and they pretty well covered the first 40 pages leading to first 3 steps.  And ol' 13 boot (my sponsor) says "Bill, you put 2 complete sentences together, we'll do the rest of the steps.  I had seen the steps and traditions hanging on the wall, thought I had done 'em.  WRONG!  They 12 step led me through the first 3.  Recognition and a decision.  Now when 13 boot says, "we'll do 'em" ......... no equivocation or evasion permitted.  I followed the BB guide for 4th, the columns, did 'em top to bottom left to right.  Then did the 5th, and looked up  2 words, "Paused" and "Immediately."  So steps 6, 7, 8 followed right along.  Then 9, scary one.  Do you think 13 boot would cut me some slack?   NOPE!  The hardest one first.  Then live last 3 steps daily and I'm glad, never necessary to pick up again.  Marriages, divorces, family deaths...  you know, Life.  I turned 77 on Friday, almost 47 years sober. Dam well doing it like book says, is worth it.  Thanks.
