Tradition Three
The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking.
Our membership ought to include all who suffer from alcoholism.
Hence we may refuse none who wish to recover. Nor ought A.A.
membership ever depend upon money or conformity. Any two or
three alcoholics gathered together for sobriety may call themselves
an A.A. group, provided that, as a group, they have no other affiliation.

Thought to Ponder
"You're an A.A. member the minute you declare yourself."

Joe S, Alcoholic. I have to be fairly blunt here. Tradition 3 is the only reason I am alive today!! I was 16 years in and out of the rooms. I sat in meetings with half a load on many times, usually because I was in a jam of some sort. Did I have a desire to stop drinking? Yes, I did. My problem was that I also had a huge ego. I didn't like you people. I didn't like your 12 steps. All I heard was God, God, God. Nobody ever told me I had to leave. They actually encouraged me to come back. *Laugh*
