Attitude and Outlook
No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how
our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and
self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain
interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude
and outlook upon life will change.

I'm an alcoholic, and my problem is Eric. Alcohol is but a symptom. Lack of power, selfishness, self-centeredness are my problems. So, for me, if I help another alcoholic because I know it will keep ME sober, that is a selfish motivation. I help others...carry the message; 1) out of gratitude...which is an action. God gifted me, from Grace, with sobriety and I pass it on because I know from my morning meditations (Step 11) it IS His will for me to do so. 2) 12th Step. I work the 12th step from a position of having had a spiritual awakening. As part of that, my duty to God...and the Fellowship that showed me the way out is to pass on the message. Doing so because i know it would keep ME sober is just another form of the selfishness and self-centeredness form of life I lived for so long. Thankful to be here. Thankful to be sober and recovered. Thank You, God, for my life.
