Motives
This odd trait of mind and emotion, this perverse wish to hide a bad motive
underneath a good one, permeates human affairs from top to bottom. This
subtle and elusive kind of self-righteousness can underlie the smallest act or
thought. Learning daily to spot, admit, and correct these flaws is the essence
of character-building and good living.

Thought to Ponder
Is the life I'm living the life that wants to live in me?

Good morning/day all. Bernie another alkie. Ahh motives. When alcohol ruled me, my motive was to get from one day to the next. I wanted to avoid pain and gain pleasure and alcohol was my tool. Anything I could do to further me and my agenda was in and the route I took. Since coming to Alcoholics Anonymous, I was given a new way of living. A road map to a spiritual life and and a spiritual way of living. This is a program of action and it takes work. I never much pondered my day before much less my motives and actions in the day that just passed. So today, I have to work the steps on a daily basis to stay recovered, and examining my actions is a part. Have I been genuine in the concern for others or the old me? Selfish and self centered, obsessed with being right and looking smart? It takes work staying recovered from a seemingly hopeless condition of mind and body. Thanks for listening.
