Troubles
"Surprisingly, we found that our troubles could, under God's grace, be converted
into unimagined blessings. Indeed, that was the essence of A.A. itself: trouble
accepted, trouble squarely faced with calm courage, trouble lessened and often
transcended. This was the A.A. story, and we became a part of it.
Such demonstration became our stock in trade for the next sufferer."
- As Bill Sees It, (Trouble: Constructive or Destructive?) No. 110

My name is Dale. I came into AA an angry person. And I soon heard a metaphor that made sense. It was: Breaking a shoestring. For me, any little thing could entirely consume my day, and feed that anger. Only when I finally passed out would the thoughts go away. And then I found something completely out of the ordinary in those meetings. People would talk about the little things, and everyone would laugh. I was aghast! How could you find humor in life's never ending problems? In time I understood. As the reading suggests, we learn that everyone faced these, mostly, trivial problems and the bigger deals, the real tragedies. We learn to face them all. I cannot blame anyone for my troubles. Those were usually my fault anyway. But in every situation I have learned to face a situation and deal with the problem, with the reality. I find that I'm not so unique that trouble seeks me out. Thanks.
