Step Three
We can have faith, yet keep God out of our lives. Therefore our problem
now becomes just how and by what specific means shall we be able to
let Him in? Step Three represents our first attempt to do this. In fact, the
effectiveness of the whole A.A. program will rest upon how well and
earnestly we have tried to come to “a decision to turn our will and our
lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.”

I am Eddy and alcoholic. I confused the actions of this step and I started off my decision to turn it over to the care of God by going with God. I thought I was supposed to go out and lead a different life. I was supposed to work the steps. I was supposed to be the one making the miracles of the program. My way of thinking had me getting up every day and taking God with me on my daily journey. Like a teenager that has to let his little brother tag along all day. It took some real reflection on my part and a lot of silent time for me to see its not like that. When I got up every day and thought I was supposed to Go With God and would let Him tag along. That turned into getting up in the morning and asking God if I can go with HIM. Go With God has new meaning today. He is not something I wear when needed. He is not the guy I ask for a miracle to get me out of trouble. He is who I follow so I never have to again. Surrender is the key and the solution is spiritual. Thank you.
