Change
Change is the characteristic of all growth. From drinking to sobriety,
from dishonesty to honesty, from conflict to serenity, from hate to
love, from childish dependence to adult responsibility -- all this and
infinitely more represent change for the better.

- As Bill Sees It, (Only God is Unchanging) No. 76

Thought to Ponder
Change is inevitable, growth is optional.

I'm Pammy and I have alcoholism. This topic brought to mind my sponsor. When her health was getting bad and she had to resign herself to assisted living, I asked how she was doing there because we all worried about her. She said after a few umm choice words, "Well Pammy you know alkies don't like change but we learn through the steps to go with the flow." And it's true. The hardest thing I had to fight myself over was facing the unknown, life with out alcohol and it did scare me. But it did help to know that I did not become an alcoholic overnight so I shouldn't expect to embrace all the changes happening straight off either. And had it not been for the three pertinent ideas I doubt I would have been able to handle that all the changes coming my way would have helped me. It's like the prayer 'Footprints,' each step of the way while I was learning to live a new life God was either with me or he carried me through. I did fall a few times when my ego wanted to get ahead of Him but gratefully it slowed me down and kept me on an even footing again. This is what the steps help me to achieve and I only have to do it one day at a time. Thank you.
