Our Own Conception
Much to our relief, we discovered we did not need to consider
another’s conception of God. Our own conception, however
inadequate, was sufficient to make the approach and to effect a
contact with Him. As soon as we admitted the possible existence
of a Creative Intelligence, a Spirit of the Universe underlying the
totality of things, we began to be possessed of a new sense of
power and direction, provided we took other simple steps.

My name is Dale and I am an alcoholic. I could not get sober, and stay sober, until I asked God for help. I had very little idea of who or what God might be, but I knew something had to change. And that something was not anything in my power. In the first years of my sobriety I was very dependent on the Serenity Prayer. That was my connection to a Higher Power. It was tenuous, I struggled but I also perservered. Finally the day came for me when I was able to do the 3rd step. I turned my Will and my Life over still not completely understanding who or what God was. I had many different notions but things changed when I turned it over to my Higher Power. I still use the Serenity Prayer. I still use the power of my knees. I still can't fully grasp who or what God is. But I understand there is a Greatness, greater than myself and that understanding is all I need to have some faith. Thanks.
