Amends
We are there to sweep off our side of the street, realizing that nothing
worth while can be accomplished until we do so, never trying to tell him
what he should do. His faults are not discussed. We stick to our own.
If our manner is calm, frank, and open, we will be gratified with the result.

Thought to Ponder
It is the highest form of self-respect to
admit mistakes and to make amends for them.

Darrell, alcoholic. After testing the waters, when I came back into AA I was ready to do what it took to stay sober. I had a great sponsor and told him I was ready to make amends to people. He was like, "Slow down Bo, we have to work the steps first, in order." I found out during the step work, well, I found the inner workings of me. And as mentioned, prayer helps. The first amends I made was to my Mom. It was a graveside amends. It was very powerful and tears were shed. I knew she was there. As time went on, I kept praying for those on my list. And with the miracles of this program, they would somehow show up in my life, and I knew to do the amends. Most were taken well, and for those that weren't, I left that to God. It's a point of freedom; cleaning house, trusting God and helping others. I really do not have time for resentments, they only kill the joy in the journey. So I do what is suggested and I turn them over to God. My life is more serene today and it frees me up to pass on that same serenity and happiness. Thanks.
