Acceptance
We learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost
selves that we were alcoholics. This is the first step in recovery.
The delusion that we are like other people, or presently may be,
has to be smashed. We alcoholics are men and women who
have lost the ability to control our drinking. We know that no
real alcoholic ever recovers control.

Thought to Ponder
Within our wonderful new world,
we have found freedom from our fatal obsession.

Pammy and I have alcoholism. It took me a bit to realize and accept my alcoholism. I kept my house in order, was a caregiver most of my life. I thought, Oh yay, now I can kick back and party like others in my family. That wasn't the case though. I couldn't understand why I wasn't like them and felt I was owed that relaxing time. Many family members yelled at me about my excessive drinking. And finally coming to AA I found out about me and our allergy and obsession. I was still going on about "Why me?" for a bit. Hoping to figure out that now I had the knowledge, I could control it. Again I was wrong. I sunk even lower. The why's and how's no longer mattered to me. It was what am I willing to do to rid myself of that emotional turmoil. My HP put in my path an amazing sponsor. If I complained she'd say, "Call me back when you've got your big girl pants on cause I no longer change diapers." If I'd say, that's too hard, I can't do it, she'd say "prove it." She had a response for everything. Now when I go see her, I share on how I found a solution to what was troubling and how it came to me. Seven years sober now and I don't question as much anymore, especially about my alcoholism. Today I see it as a gift that brought me closer to my spiritual side. And even though I didn't come to AA looking for friends, that became a bonus. Thank you.
