Sponsorship
Sponsorship can be the answer for the person who has
been able to achieve only interludes of sobriety or who
has attended meetings casually but has not really taken
the First Step. For such a person, a sponsor with a firm
grounding of sobriety in A.A. can make all the difference.

Thought to Ponder
The basis of all sponsorship is to lead by example.

Howdy Friends. Joe S, Alkie. I flitted in and out of the rooms for years. No God. No steps. No sponsor. No Big Book. Took up space and drank coffee. When I asked, what I needed appeared. My first sponsor was a Korean War vet, did a couple of pen stretches. Just a no BS kinda guy. He told me he'd be my sponsor until I got another one. I never did, until he passed shortly after he gave me my 3 year coin. We went thru the Big Book, 3 - 4 pages at a time. I had to call him every night at 7pm, get assigned my reading and then call him back to tell him what I read. If he didn't like what I had to say, I got to read it again. And sometimes again. [laugh] He pushed the Big Book and Service. I set up our Home Group, made coffee, and cleaned up after. My obsession left at step 2. That's what I had fought all those years. I've lost track of how many people I've sponsored. I have one sponsee at the moment. He took 2 years in October, and became our intergroup rep. I also have a sponsor, he's house bound at the moment, but we talk regularly. Keep the circle moving is what I was told, and I know it works. Keep It Simple.
